Cathy Makes a Card No. 09: Distress Oxides + Lawn Fawn stamps & dies

Continuing with my foray into Distress Oxide land, today I’m sharing a card that’s pretty cute, if I do say so myself. And a few of you have commented on social media that it seems weird to hear me talk about cute stuff in crafting. I totally get that, but I mean… this Lawn Fawn stuff? There is literally no other word to describe it and I am smitten with pretty much everything they do. Have you ever watched any of the videos by Lawn Fawn owner Kelly Marie Alvarez? Her voice literally conveys cuteness. As soon as she starts to talk, I reach for my credit card. (I wonder if Dan will find that as cute as I do?)

In any event, this is pretty cute.

Aside from being cute, this card hits some key points for me as a designer, namely that gorgeous framing white space around the edge of the card, and repetition of color and shape.

From a craft supply standpoint, I only used two of the Distress Oxides, and six Copic markers to add all that coloring. Not too bad for limited coloring supplies (see all inks below!)

I recorded a short video tutorial and this is one wherein I did not make this card first and then go back and make another version of it. Nope, I decided to try and be One Take Cathy and the results turned out better than I had hoped. Enjoy!

I cannot stress enough how the cuteness of the Plane and Simple Set has sucked me into card making even further.  I’ll be sharing another very simple card I made with the set next week!

Seriously. And I haven’t even tried to stamp those little faces and rosy cheeks onto the clouds yet. #ohforcute

Great card. It was beautiful, “plane” and simple ;->

I’ve never thought to use the misti to ensure lined up edges when applying a card front panel to my base. Brilliant!

Keep creating. It’s wonderful seeing this venue through your fresh eyes.

    Kind regards,
    Nanelyn

Thanks, Melissa! Trying to keep it simplified, though I’m fully aware there are a lot of tools to make the process “simple”. Lol!

This stamp set is really cute and so is your card! Lawn Fawn is awesome and Kelly Marie just exudes happiness and joy! Do you think she still sounds like that when she’s having a bad day?! 😉 Can’t wait to see what you make next Cathy!

Great technique video and such a cute card!! So great that you are getting into cards. I recently got into cards a year ago and my stamp collection doubled!! I thought; hey I can use in my page layouts too! But I rarely do; any advice?

I have definitely taken some of the techniques that I have learned from watching card videos and making cards and putting it into my scrapbooking which is been kind of fun! Die cutting titles for example and stacking a bunch of them on top of each other to create your own dimensional titles is pretty fun!
