Let’s hear it for lo-fi!

Now that my CKC 08 teaching season is over, I thought I’d share with you a very short little video that I shared with my students after yakking at them for an hour about how I recharge and reconnect with what it is that I love about scrapbooking: good stories and photos that make me happy.

Because stories happen every day. And if you’re a scrapbooker, it seems that photos happen every day. Stories and photos. Photos and stories. Sometimes, you just need one. Or the other. Or both. Either way, when you mix it all up and shake it all out, scrapbooking is essentially about storytelling. With pictures and words. That’s the part that keeps me inspired and coming back for more.

And a little bit of Neil Finn singing "Last to Know" doesn’t hurt. My most favorite line in that song is, "Magnets and words, upon the fridge, speak to the poet in all of us," and it just reminds me that you could say a similar thing to scrapbooking: pictures and words speak to the reporter in all of us.

You know, you could say that.

Enjoy my lo-fi video, and thanks to everyone who came out to CKC.

For those who were wondering, I made this slide show using iMovie on my Mac.

Ok, this is totally cool. Just LOVE IT. Question — what program to you use to make your photo videos?

Anyway, amazing how looking at photos and listening to music can move you — even when you do not even know the people in the photos!! Yes, you have stories, and I guess I do to — easy to forget the incredible stories of our everyday lives.

Thank you so much for sharing as I have never been to CKC, and will probably not fit into my life for awhile. Any chance you might ever make it to Ohio?? Not so far from MN????

I loved the video. As I watched the video I kept thinking about the importance of family. You and your family are blessed to have each other. I can’t imagine my life without my boys and husband. I love how scrapbooking captures the stories of your life that otherwise may be forgotten. The other day my husband picked up a notebook of mine where I record funny things my boys say. After he laughed at a number of stories he looked at me and said “we are so lucky to have these boys”.
    Take care

Very cool, Cathy. I, too, would like to know what program you use. I make a lot of these ‘lo-fi’ slideshows for my extended family get-togethers and church, but my program is sorely limited. Also, there is a huge group of us in the Boise area who would love to have a CKC/CKU of our own….any chance of that someday?

I don’t know what it is about watching a photo slideshow to music, it always makes me teary eyed. I love watching your kids growing up through the years. Somehow it helps me reflect on my own family and how quickly my girls are growing. Thanks for sharing that today Cathy!

my kids love iMovie to customize their videos of their soccer games. add some very hip 80s techno-rock and show them at their end-of-season banquets. big hits all around. now I can show them that there are other options besides soccer.”see kiddos, look what Cathy did!” new homeschool project, thank you kindly.
you are amazing, thanks for the share.
