CZ Design Designer Digitals Sneek Peek

October 15, 2009

CZ Design Designer Digitals Sneek Peek

I'm going to be sharing new layouts towards the end of the week for the next several weeks as I am releasing new template designs at Designer Digitals.

I've been getting lots of emails and request for things to add to my collection and trust me, I am keeping a running list with all of your good ideas. Very high on the list is to design a school memories template set, and that's something I will be working on very soon. So stay tuned for that.

Going on sale this weekend? Layered Templates No's 2 and 3:

CZ_LayeredTNo2PREV

Here's the page I did:

CZT2sample

(For a supply list, click here.)

Oh yeah baby, those photos look familiar right? I have SO many shots of large, fiberglass-laden Minnesota statues that I could make numerous pages, and still have a fresh new set of pics for each page.

This new template came from a paper layout I did about a trip to New Zealand a ways back, and it looked something like this:

Nz

Seriously? I could use this design again and again. A very quick and easy way to showcase some travel photos.

But check out how Patricia made this template a) into a 12 x 12 and b) her own:

Pagina1201

(For her supply list, click here.)

Here's another example of what Katrina did, sweet and simple:

Sight_Seeing

(For her supply list, click here.)

The nice thing is that it can be for any sights you see, not simply travel-related sights.

The next template being released this weekend? My first foray into 12 x 12 digital:

CZ_LayeredTNo3PREV

This design came from the very last layout I did for my About Design column in Simple Scrapbooks magazine, and it was a page I loved, so I thought: why not make a scalloped cardstock background? So that's exactly what I did. Here's the inspiration:

SISP-090600-DES-1

Here is another page from Patricia (for supplies, click here):

Pagina1211

Seriously? I want to live in her house. I also love how she flipped the template and used the journaling area for another photo to make it her own.

And here's a cool page from Sarah:

May091

(For her supply list, click here.)

For me, this is like having little tiny digital babies, and seeing them go out into the world and grow up. In other words, it's really cool to see what the team over at Designer Digitals does with these little babies.

My plan is to release both 12 x 12 and 8.5 x 11, as well as to work on some word art collections, and other elements to use in both digi and hybrid design.

Right now, I have so many I want to do, there aren't enough hours in the day. Or so it seems. I will say that it's re-energized my love of design and story telling. And that's a pretty cool thing!

Just curious if it is possible to change the titles on the templates? I love them but wouldn’t always want to use the titles provided, iyswim.

    As always, great layout ideas!!

Bev: In answer to your question, if the titles are separate layers, I’m assuming they are, then you can simply delete those layers and create your own. That’s one of the many great things about digital/hybrid scrapping.

Awesome! Can’t wait for the school templates; my kids are only 10, a few more weeks won’t hurt, ha ha (pretty please can they be 12 x 12?). I like this size best for making into photobooks (seems to be a popular choice at Shutterfly etc). Unless anyone knows of a company that prints at 8.5 x 11? You sure are rockin’ the digi templates Cathy!

Hey Bev, you can… you would simply delete the title file. When you see a custom title like this, it has been rasterized (converted to a graphic file). You can recolor it, but you can’t highlight and type over it. You’d have to own the fonts that I used to create.

But you can put your own title in very easily in a font and style of your choice!

    Hey Cathy
I am loving these templates but have a question for you…
Here in Australia we cant get 8.5 x 11 or 12 x 12 photos so getting digi pages printed to put in albums…amongst the paper and hybrid pages isnt an option. I am embracing all 3 forms of scrapping and would love to include them all mixed in together in my albums.
One thought I had was to resize them to be printed as an 8×12 and crop them to 8 x 10.5 then adhere them to cardstock.

Do you have any thoughts or suggestions? Are you planning to print these digi pages?
Thanks so much for the inspiration
    Diane

    Hey Diane,

I will be printing my 8.5 x 11 pages, yes. Probably at scrapbookpictures.com.

You can resize these templates if you’re a bit Photoshop savvy. It might take a bit of tweaking, but it’s not hard at all. : )

Diane, I am in New Zealand and have much the same problem. What I have done is buy Cathy’s 8.5 x 11 templates and resized them to A4 so I could print them at full bleed on my home computer. It was really easy to convert them to A4 and after changing a setting on my printer, they printed out really well at full bleed. I am thrilled with the results!.

As for 12 x 12, I don’t know if it will be as easy to convert those templates to a smaller size but if it is not possible, I am going to send them to http://www.scrapbookpictures.com for printing. They seem to have a flat shipping rate to this part of the world of $US4.99 , which I think is really good, and each 12×12 page costs $US1.99 which is not too shabby either.

Of course, I may just avoid the 12×12 templates as all of my albums are the smaller size but it is nice to have at least one printing option.

I just thought I would let you know as I have been stuggling with this problem for a while now.

I’ve lost touched with blog-world for a while and then just heard CZ is designing for DD??!! SO HAPPY! I only returned to scrapping this month and I’m always looking at your books for inspiration on keeping my pages clean. I’m going to be saving all my scrapping pennies for all these templates.

My wish is for a 12×12 template for all those neurotic moms like me that took one photo of their baby in the same spot every month for the first year…so at least 12 spots for photos. I’ve been playing with other templates and has come off too busy or cheesy (well, it is cheesy…) so I’m holding off printing to see if you’ll come up with one!

    Thanks for including 12×12’s too!

I love the new 12×12 template you are releasing! I am in Canada and I haven’t a clue where to get something like that printed.

If I want to do part traditional and part digital, do I just print out what I like and then add my photos?

Helen, yes, you can do that. If you have PSE or PS, you would just open the file, and turn OFF the layers that you wanted to do with actual photos. Make sense?

    I use places like http://www.scrapbookpictures.com for printing 12 x 12s.

This partnership should have happened decades ago. You and DD are the perfect pair – just LOVE these clean layouts! What’s so cool is that it just doesn’t matter how you digi-scrap . . . they can stay clean and simple or go crazy – but the foundation is there. Awesome.

Love the designs but I know very little about digital scrapbooking and how it works. Could you write a post about the basic of digital scrapbooking? I have PSP9–will that work or do I need photoshop? Could I get by with just photoshop elements? So many questions and I know I would probably love going digital as I love playing on the computer.

Mary, absolutely (it can be turned off! it’s just on two layers). That’s the fun of the whole digi thing. It can go hybrid very easily, or you just custom create your own title.

Hey Cathy! Can’t wait for the release today. I just wanted to second a previous comment that it would be great for the school album templates to be 12×12. I generally like 8 1/2 x11, but for those albums I need the room. And, while I am being greedy, can they be hybrid friendly? I would love more hints on how to take a digi template and go hybrid!

I just got your 2nd book on saturday. Love it. Took your class TAV me. Still working on it. This is probably stupid but on your templates (I don’t do digital) what are the sizes of the photos. A 4×6 and 2x2ish? Im still struggling when I try to lift a page.
Also seeing that you are such a big GREEN DAY fan… Billy Joe is married to Addie Nesser – a girl who lived down the street from me. I knew her sister and bother. Shes about 6 years younger than me. Both her parents and mine still live in same houses so I know he comes to visit! Just a bit of trivia.
