One day of my Week in the Life

April 21, 2010

One day of my Week in the Life

IMG_2318

It's official. I heart Ali's Week in the Life project.

One day done. I took 259 photos on Monday. What? You so crazy!

I did. And there were many I loved that didn't make the final cut. Photos like these, with lots of wood in the background:

IMG_2261

Honestly? I can't remember the last time I was this hyper-focused on visual documentation. For me, written documentation is always going to be easier. I actually have to work at remember to take pictures.

Here are what my album spreads ended up looking like:

IMG_2312

IMG_2319

I am using Ali's Week in the Life 8.5 Template Pack as the base for my project. I'm using the weekday opener pages and the collage pages that come in the pack for a fully digital page, then printing those on my HP Photosmart using Ilford Gallerie Smooth Pearl paper.

I'm using We R Memory Keepers 8.5 x 11 divided page protectors for my trading card sized elements, all of which are based off of Ali's template design. I just did some tweaking to suit my needs.

IMG_2324

I love the idea of doing a project almost fully digi, and then just printing and cutting apart. I think it looks really slick in my album.

I've chosen to go with grey, yellow and white digital papers for the entire project. I'm using Avenir for my journaling and some of my circle art, to tie in with Ali's design.

I'm looking forward to seeing this project unfold. Thanks, Ali, for the great idea.

Here are my other supplies:

Album: American Crafts 3-Ring Binder, 8.5 x 11, in brown

Patterned Papers: yellow floral is Manchester by Michelle Martin; grey floral is Laurel by Michelle Martin

Digital Cardstock: Just Linens No. 1 by Michelle Martin (white)

This is coming along nicely! I still think my photos are terribly boring, but then I just know the stuff I’m taking photos of so very well. So that’s life, I guess, making them the perfect week in my life pics afterall. Looking forward to see more of your journey!

Can you please share how you made the card with the circle tag? I bought Ali’s templates too. but I love how the circle tag in the middle of the WRMK pages makes the design cohesive. Any help would be greatly appreciated. 🙂

Great job Cathy. I loved that she did the 8.5 x 11 templates at your request, since I totally fell in love with that size during DYL. My album arrives UPS today. Woot! And I have uploaded all my photos from Monday and Tuesday. I plan today to drop the days into the templates. I heart this project too. I don’t heart all of my photos – still struggle with lighting INSIDE but as my good friend Doris Day says, Que Sera, Que Sera. Whatever will be, will be. This IS life! =) – pennyscraps

I love your circles so much I bought the squares, too. Don’t know if I could take that many photos in a day . . . well, yes, if I included the garden, the grands, and, here’s a thought, me. Neat idea, super execution.

I am going with the 8.5×11 too. I made a little vintage contact sheet and so am enjoying the process of putting it all together each eve.

I did well photo-wise on Monday, but struggled Tuesday as the day was spent doing much the same stuff and felt I had already taken all the photos!! Doing better today though! I have Ali’s 8.5×11 templates too…having also developed a love of 8.5×11 thanks to your METAV and DYL classes…so thank you for sharing (and inspiring, yet again!!)

I would like to ask you the same question I asked Ali–

All of the photos you took won’t go into this project (I understand that)—Maybe they will be used on other layouts/prokects (I understand that)—

What do you do with those leftover photos? Do they just stay on your camera/computer—Do you print them all?

I too, am using Ali’s templates and loving the simplicity of them. I completed my Monday pages and posted them on my blog http://seriousplay.typepad.com , if you’d like to take a peek! I am behind on Tuesday’s pages…I have them edited, but not added to the templates yet! What I really love is an album about ME. Since I am usually the one behind the camera, I have the rest of my family documented fairly well, but me…not so much! It will be great to look back and see what I was up to in April 2010.

I do have a question though – maybe you’ve already answered it somewhere but do you shoot with the auto settings or the manual settings on your dslr? Your photos are beautiful and I am struggling with learning all the iso/f-stop etc. Just curious and thanks for all the inspiration1

When I saw the picture of your Adagio Tea goodies, it reminded me to thank you for the $5 coupon to Adagio.com. I used it a couple months ago and I am addicted 100%. I’ve always loved tea, but their tea is awesome! I’ve already earned a $10 coupon and sadly, it was earned by all the orders I’ve placed for myself! So, thank you, thank you! I am in tea heaven!

As I was falling asleep last night I decided to do this day in the life project. Then this morning, I saw your completed pages and actually committed to doing it. They look so great. What kind of dividers do you use. It looks like the kind for baseball cards? What is used for the other page with different sized dividers? I have downloaded so many of your templates and think your stuff is great. Thanks for the inspiration.

Heading over to DD! Also, I am wondering how on earth I missed your Nov 24 post with the fantastic giveaway!! Any chance you’ll do it again–just your designs? I already bought PSE 8.

So at first I didn’t realize this project was 4 pages per day, WOW!, I thought it was a week in a few pages not that much for each day. Are you planning on doing this intermittently or for every week? I could see doing this occasionally but not on a regular basis. I bought your 7 Days template on DD. And thought at some point that might be doable for a full year (And a good way to document the pictures I’m taking each day of my son during his 1st year). But this format seems too much for me. Though some days/weeks I have plently of pics.
