The Monthly for July 2010

August 12, 2010

The Monthly for July 2010

Ah…July has come and gone, and I spent an hour and a half yesterday sorting through my iPhoto library, selecting a handful of images to best represent my family's month, and then dropped them into The Monthly template pages. They look like this:

1_JulyOpener
2_July
B_July
C_July
D_July
JulyJournalPage

This month, I'm skipping the divided page protectors portion of this project. Why? Because it's summer, and I can! Plus, I ran out of divided page protectors, so I have to order up some more!

The thing I really like about this project? Editing. Pure and simple. Instead of printing every living shot I take, I have to just say, "Okay, how can I pare it all down and still tell a visual story?"

That's the question I answer each month with this project and it never fails to make me feel good about how I'm choosing to save my photos.

Designer Digitals is running an impromptu summer sale through Friday at 6 a.m. Eastern, with 30% off templates and papers. All of my templates are on sale, including The Monthly sets.

A sale?! YEA!! I’ve been looking through your templates…like a kid in a candy store, just can’t decide on the size…12 x 12 or 8 1/2 by 11…If I purchase one size, can it be resized? If so, is that a difficult process? I’m thinking the smaller size..but then wonder…what if I want to do some larger??? Too much thinking so early in the morning…

I am sad to hear that Cole’s going to have to choose a different instrument…. I have 2 baritone/euphonium players at my house and they have enjoyed playing it.

Thanks for sharing your monthlys with us. πŸ™‚

oh, I sense a shopping spree! πŸ™‚ can I just ask, by the way, a while ago you mentioned intending to do some templates for recipes? did you do that yet and if so, what did you name them? πŸ™‚

I have a little step by step on the PDF instruction sheets that tell you how to size UP the 8.5 x 11. But mostly, its just increasing the canvas size, and leaving the original design nestled in a nice bit of framing white space! Does that make sense? So its not about taking the 8.5 x 11 and filling IN the 12 x 12 space with it. Good luck picking!

I love these Cathy! Do you just print them from the digital file or do you hybridise them up? If printing on digital do you just print on glossy photo paper or card or something else? Sorry for the questions!!! πŸ™‚

oooohhhh….. I love it when I open a blog and find a gift like this!! Thanks Cathy for sharing your talent with us!! I’m all over those templates — in an effort to simplify my life and actually get the photos off the computer — they are just what the doc ordered !! Now to go wash the sweat from the morning run off and do some online shopping!! And has Aidan read “The Hunger Games” by Suzanna Collins yet? The third one is coming out on the 24th!!

I don’t usually comment but I just have to tell you how fit you are looking! My mom has a treadmill that she wants to give me but it’s under a mound of stuff at her house and it’s not going to fit in my Chevy Cavalier so I’m waiting patiently until I can get it to my house but I’m so ready to try to join you! Not ready enough to run outside though…

thanks abby! : ) Having just chosen to run outside on a hot humid morning, rather than the treadmill, im thinking the treadmill would have been a better choice! I cant cool off! LOL. Get that treadmill and use it! : ) Good luck!

I do print them from the digital file onto a matte coated paper. I upload them to ScrapbookPictures.com and choose the matte finish option.

While each photo is lovely and thought provoking, my favorites are Dan in the rainbow wig, and the shots of your feet. I’ve always wondered what your feet look like! To be clear, I am heterosexual and do not have a foot fetish.

Thanks for the inspiration to do a monthly layout that coincides with the DD sale! I have been eying your monthly layout templates for a while but my budget and schedule have been holding me back. Between the sale and my upcoming vacation next week, the stars have aligned! I am so excited to do a monthly layout. Things have been totally crazy at work and have had NO time to scrapbook in months! But now I’m going to start with July and work my way backward to January and that covers 2010. Who knows, with your templates, maybe I can even finish 2007-2009 next week too! I never thought I would become a digital scrapbooker but with limited time it’s the way to go.
