OBSERVATIONS: And so, 52 weeks of scrapbooking Project Life-style come to an end. I really didn't know what would happen with this project. Honestly. I have a tendency to go a little gung ho on ideas and then, well, fizzle out on some of them.
But this one stuck.
I am so glad it stuck.
It's going to stick again for 2013.
If you've been following along and you are thinking, "Hmmm. Maybe this is something I could do," I seriously urge you to check it out. I feel like it re-invigorated my story telling love.
The best part is that I got to do it in a way that felt authentic to me. This can really be anything you want it to be. I love that.
I'm also really grateful to Becky Higgins and her stellar staff for all the support over this past year of being part of the Project Life Creative Team. I know that this year's team will continue to inspire people with their unique takes on this truly awesome system.
Here are my final pages of the year:
Today I have one small download for you, the So Long Twenty Twelve card you see on this week's spread.
Inside the zipped package you'll find a PSD, a PNG and a PDF. If you print the PDF, be sure to select "Actual Size" in the Adobe Acrobat print window, to ensure proper sizing. The other two files are for Photoshop and Photoshop Elements users.
If you missed my post earlier this week, I have a good chunk of Project Life freebies to help you design your title pages for 2013. Click here for more information.
Now is also a great time to start working with Week in Review cards if you haven't tried this approach already. Below are a few of my 4 x 6 sized journalers. Click on the images to see the product pages.

I’m soooo excited that you did PL last year and kept at it, inspired me so much!! I have loved every week’s pages and all the fun you added into them. Thank you for the downloads thruout the year and hope you continue in 2013. Those week in review cards are just what I need this year, wanting to change my Pl a little this year and bring some new things to it. So HAPPY HAPPY your doing it again this year!!
Great last week Cathy, love it and thanks for the last journal card of 2012. Here’s to 2013 may it knock your socks off again this year.
p.s. WOW it was super cold for you this Christmas, brrrr
Jody says
Was looking at the picture of the temperature and thinking…what’s she complaining about, that isn’t so bad. Then realised that it was not Celsius. So yes, it was cold LOL

I truly enjoy looking at on this web site , it has got fantastic blog posts.

Thanks Cathy for taking us on this journey this year. I feel like this year really solidified my own enjoyment of the project. It started out trying to be a show piece with just the right kind of pictures and journaling, and became more authentic and real as the year went on. I learned so much about working in PSE that I’m going digital this year and really enjoying it thus far. So easy to stay ‘caught up’.
Can’t wait to see how the year shakes out for all of us.

Thanks for yet another cool freebie.
I loved reading your posts bout your PL this year and can’t wait to see what you’ll do in 2013. Thanks for sharing and being so inspirational !

Awesome. Your family is so cute. Can’t wait for Seafoam to get to Amazon! =)

Ha! yes. Its a bit chillier!

Cathu, the only thing holding me back from PL or any other hybrid scrapbooking is the color printing. I’m OK with buying a color printer, but am concerned about ink cost. Can you tell me what it costs to print a 4×6 photo? I realize prices would vary a bit according to printer, but a ballpark figure?
Laura A in OR says
Thank you, Cathy, for the freebee cards for PL.
I, too, enjoy you weekly blog posts of your PL. Please, keep them coming.
Veronica says
Awesome! I am ready to start 2012. Journalling done all year, pictures captures, bits and pieces collected, the many freebies from awesome people like yourself, purchased products from Designer Digitals and 2012 should be put together in less than a month.

This looks awesome Cathy and love how you wrapped up 2012 :). Thanks for all your PL posts this year and you have inspired me in so many ways ! And thanks for the freebies – who doesn’t like freebies?! Anyhow i will be continuing to follow you again this year and thanks again for your posts, videos and creativity :).

I have truly enjoyed following your PL progress this year. I’ve been using your Monthly templates for 2012 but might just try PL weekly layouts this year. would you mind sharing some of your favorite fonts? Happy 2013!
cathy says
I wish I had the mathematical mind to know this. I really do. I buy my inks probably every four months and it costs me $100. Then I buy my 100-packs of 8.5 x 11 (around $50). And that lasts probably four months as well. I honestly have no idea how to calculate the cost per photo. Im sorry. : (
cathy says
Yes! My favorites for PL are as follows: Avenir Roman Book, Archer Medium, Helvetica Rounded Bold Condensed, and Helvetica Neue (varying weights). Those are the fonts I use in my Project Life albums. None of them are free fonts, however. You can always Google to find knock off versions. : )

I am so happy that you guys had fun at our Party and that we made it into your PL album! I can’t wait to start my own. I am anxiously awaiting the order I placed π
ErinK. says
Thanks for the freebie! I am going to use in my Monday slot…and then do a recap of highlights from 2012 that help explain where we are in 2013.
cathy says
Mitchell, youre all over Project Life in December! : ) Youll be in the first week of 2013 too! Gotta use some of Jakes photos.

Thanks so much for all your freebies this year; “so long” is so cute. Most of them made an appearance or two in our PL album along with your fun DD templates & overlays. Can’t wait to see your 2013 PL album this year.
Beth says
Thank you so much for allowing us to follow you. I did the Shutterfly version, and I have go say several times I almost quit, but then I’d see your weekly post and I would go do mine. I hope you’ll do this again. I’m trying different layouts this year, so we’ll see how that goes.

Cathy, I have loved following your PL this year. It has definitely been an inspiration. There are two things that stand out for me about your 2012 PL … one, how much your kids have grown up and matured over the year, and two, you could see your happiness grow and shine through in both your journaling and the photos of you. I’m betting it will continue through 2013 and I hope you will continue to share your PL. Thank you, also, for all of the great freebies you share with us!
Kathy says
I agree with the previous comment and have loved seeing your PL posts too. Regards Kathy A, Brisbane, Australia

Hey Cathy,
It could be my feeble mind failing me (entirely possible), but did you do a binder label freebie early last year for PL binders? I feel like you did and I thought I downloaded it, but can’t find it in my files. I’ve looked through several of your posts from earlier in the year and no luck yet. I found the vol 1 and 2 labels from mid year, but that’s not what I’m thinking of. Or maybe that was for MMEW? Can you tell me if I’m nuts, and if not, help direct me to the post with this particular download. Thanks for helping make our PL albums look fabulous, I’m loving the downloads for 2013! If I’m bugging the wrong scrapper, I apologize in advance π

Thank you for the goodies this week Cathy! This was my first year with PL and I loved it!! As I put the final touches on my digital pages this week and hit the submit/buy button to have it printed I was so excited to begin again with 2013. I loved how I captured all the “little” things in 2012 that we might otherwise forget.
Thanks for all the inspiration too! Happy New Year!
Beth Lo says
Me again π I found them, they are on Becky H’s site. Sorry to bug!!
cathy says
Beth, I did post those mid year. : ) Youre not crazy. But in the new freebie package, there are also binder labels in that package too! Did you see those?
And here is the link to the midyear one:https://www.cathyzielske.com/2012/07/project-life-week-twenty-seven-a-free-binder-label-download-for-you.html

I read (ok stalk, whatever) your blog daily and love your approach to PL. As a single, young professional with no kids I sometimes get bummed out with the “we”, “our”, and “us” wording on a lot of the digital products available. Actually a lot of products, now that I think about it…do you know how hard it is to find a “MY first home” Christmas ornament?! Anyway, I’m a big fan of your Layered No. 1 journaling cards…would you ever consider adding some “me” and “my” into the mix? Self-indulgent, I realize, but it’s just me for now! π

Hi! I too have loved your posts. I think i am finally ready to bite the bullet and do PL this year this style. Thank you for all of the freebies. I love your style. One question – from your products list i assume you print your cards on the bazill paper and your photos on the photo paper? I’m actually planning to do my weekly PL digitally but i want to print out some of the baby and child edition becky higgins cards for my kids albums and wondered how to best do that. Or do i treat them like photos and have them developed at the printers. Thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks for this freebie and all of the ones you offer throughout the year. I love them! I saw the post for your PL Olympics card freebie earlier today but didn’t find the link in the post. Was that removed? I am a HUGE Olympics fan and would love to add that into my album if it is still available. Thanks & Happy New Year!
cathy says
Christie, I want to hit myself over the head for NOT including that stuff. In fact, Im going to see if Designer Ds will let me update that set. I will email you if I can. : )
cathy says
Yes, thats what I do. Photos on photo paper, everything else on white cardstock. : )
cathy says
If you email me at czdesign@comcast.net, I can send it to you. Someone had complained it was a copyright issue.
cathy says
Hey Christie, later today the new Week in Review Cards No. 01 will include a A Peek at My Week along with all the other cards in the set! Ill keep this in mind going forward!
Christie M says
You are so awesome! Thank you!!

Cathy..love your PL posts all year and thank you for all the stuff you shared..freebies and videos…I too am finishing up my PL and can’t believe I actually completed it? So unlike me..lol
Did you do an ending page? Like a last single page? I can’t figure out what I want to do and can’t seem to find any inspiration or examples? Weird…
cathy says
I didnt. : ) I figure the year is done, but now, youve got me thinking!
Tltorrez says
Thanks. I just came on to ask the same question. Last year was my first year for Project Life and I loved it but the core kit style wasn’t really my own. Your approach definitely fits better with my own clean and simple style. Thanks for all the inspiration.
Shawna Zervos says
Salutations! Thanks for sharing with us! A couple of PL questions: Are you going to purchase a core kit this year (or have you already received one?) How necessary do you feel it is? The kits available this week do not excite me but the “teaser” CHA releases do. I just hate to be that far behind.
Jenna says
I have loved seeing your posts & really want to do it but am afraid of getting behind. I have used the DayOne app all last year to write journal entries; in other words, regular record keeping isn’t beyond the realm of possibilities!!
cathy says
Well I dont have one in my hands yet, but its on order. : ) I suppose I dont actually need a core kit. I design so many of my own cards that I dont find myself using them very often. But I think the new Cinnamon kit looks really cool. I say just start where you are; add a kit later if you feel you need to!
cathy says
Banish those fears! So what if you fall behind? You can group two or three weeks together on one spread! Honestly. It could even be a monthly thing when youre too busy to do a weekly. : )
Sally Kemp says
Like you, I found that I didn’t really use a lot of the kit elements last year. Between your products, and the kit, and the other digital elements out there, it got really overwhelming for me to decide which products to use. This is silly, because after all, Project Life is supposed to take the confusion out of the process, right? So I ended up just going with a lot of your elements, Cathy, and not using the kit. But I will say that I love the Cinnamon kit and I’m in a quandary now…
Shawna Zervos says
Thank you. I plan on using your Week At A Glance cards and may add a kit later. Last year I did not begin until April (talk about overwhelming!) I’m tryint to stay the course this year. What kit did you order?
cathy says
Shawna, I did order the Seafoam kit, but it has not arrived. : (
