I’ve been getting a number of emails from people who want to use my Week in Review cards for their Project Life albums, but need a little help in getting started.
I put together a video tutorial which shows you how to:
1. Change the color of the card frames.
2. Clip digital papers into the card frames.
3. Change the fonts.
4. Change the color of the fonts.
I hope this helps those of you who need a little help with the digital processes. Once you get these few basics down, you can do just about any digital project in time. If you have any questions, please post in the comments and I’m happy to answer them.

Perfect timing! I want to use your Week In Review templates this year for Project Life but need so much help in how to use them, starting with how to get them on my computer once I purchase the template! I would still love for you to create a beginners (and I mean BEGINNER!!)class for BPS!! Please!!
Thanks!
Wendy says
I have really wanted to use these, but I would like them to be 3×4. Is there an easy way to change the size?
Louise says
This is so super of you. Thank you so much for so generously sharing.
Rhadonda says
Thanks so much! I always love and appreciate your tutorials.

You must have been reading my mind. I was just thinking about this. What if my content(text) for the card is too much or too little to fill it up? How do I adjust the text size so it all fits nicely?
Love your design style 🙂
Barbara T. says
Thank you Cathy
cathy says
The size doesnt really translate down. I do have some 3 x 4 layered cards, however:http://www.designerdigitals.com/digital-scrapbooking/supplies/product_info.php/products_id/13619
cathy says
You can edit your writing to fit. Thats what I do. Honestly. Or, make the type a point size smaller. : )

You are a good teacher. I diligently took notes on 3×5 cards to keep handy when I am working on my project. It seems like I take too much time between PSE uses & have to relearn everything all over again. Thanks for the tutorial!
Laura says
Oooooooh, clipping patterned paper into the frames? So going to try that! I’m using these for my hybrid Project Life this year. 🙂

You are SO wonderful to do these short videos for us. It’s like a lifeline, drawing us ever closer to confidence with Photoshop Elements. I feel that I’m finally being pulled closer into “the dark side” of a software program that I NEVER thought I’d be able to manage. Thank you Obi-Wan Kenobe!
Erin says
Thanks! I’m just getting into PSE and been watching a lot of you on vimeo. I appreciate the tutorials!
Amantha says
Thank you so much for the tutorial! I’ve been kind of muddling through and I’m grateful for the information to make it easier. I have a question, though. I bought the frame journaling cards about ten days ago and I don’t see any vertical line marks. Did you include them? If not, how do I make my own? Again, thanks so much for the tutorials. I agree, you are a good teacher!
cathy says
They should be in the file, but those just came from my keyboard. There is a key that has both a slash and a vertical line on it. : ) Do you see that key on your keyboard?
Shannan says
I think it’s only on Macs
Theresa says
I haven’t watched this one yet but I will be!!!!! Thank you so much for these awesome videos. You have no idea how much they have helped me.
Amantha says
Yes! It’s right there to the right of the brackets. Thanks so much! I think it adds a bit to the journaling and I am glad to be able to add it.
goshery says
This happened to be one of the few things I’ve mastered in PSE (and I really mean a few!) but I watched the whole thing anyway because I love your videos! I love that you take time to show multiple ways to do things and that you don’t rush though the instructions. Thanks!
Anita says
Thank you so much, this is very thoughtful of you.
Sheryl says
Thank you so much! I just downloaded these cards on the weekend.
Christine says
I love your cards. I starting using them last week. The video is very helpful. The first card I made I had my iPad with the video on as I worked on my Mac. This week I was able to journal on a card in record time. Having the Day One app is extremely helpful and I highly recommend it.
Gina T says
Thank you Cathy. I bought these cards almost a year ago I believe and I’m hoping to finally get to use them. Thanks for the tutorial. You are the best! Blessings to you!!

Dear sweet Cathy-
I love you! It has been many years since I have taken classes from you at CKU, but you inspire this mother like no other. Thank you for your hilarious humor, beautiful photography and creative ideas. You are the best!!! So glad you are part of PL- just getting started for the first time and you are just the inspiration I need. And yes Downton Abbey is so good- keep watching;)
MarieD says
Thanks so much for this video, it’s sooooo well explained and clear ! I can’t wait to discover your week 2 of PL ! I’ve done my week 1 (almost done) but I’m struggling to start working on week 2 since I started an internship in a lab and I’m exhausted by the end of the day (oh, the joy of Grad School !)
Have a great day !

Thank you for sharing this Cathy, I picked up a few shortcuts! I am having some trouble getting them to print accurately, I guess this is very dependant on the printer being used, but my border is either getting cut off too much, or it is putting a white border around it. Any tips to help?
cathy says
Leah, are you trying to print them on 4 x 6 photo paper? Because if you are, then what happens is your printer enlarges the file to accommodate the edge to edge printing, ergo, it doesnt print as you see it.
I always print mine on regular 8.5 x 11 paper, with the settings to no bleed (just 8.x x 11 paper, on Photo Quality.) Then i drag other cards that I want to use that week onto the paper. I did a video on that:

Thank you so much for the tutorial! You are great at explaining how PS works! I appreciate you taking the time to do this!!!!:)

Got it! Thanks so much!

Thanks for a great tutorial….perfect with my morning coffee!
Mary Satterfield says
OMG your tutorial was so good that I did not have these cards but I bought them and now I am so glad I did. How much fun this is going to be. I have the Silhouette Cameo and now I can make them all print and cut files when I want to do my weekly journaling. You have begun to unravel the mystery for me, thank you!
Lisa B. says
Do you have any “month in review” cards for those of us doing PL monthly? Or is there a way to change the word “week” to “month?” I’m new to all of this. Thank you for your videos!
Gina T says
Wow, am I lame. I can’t pull them into the template and get them to look right. So are the Week in review parts a little bigger than the template? Do I need to size it down. When I do it is lopsided. Do you have a video that shows this that you can refer me to? Thank you for your help!
Leah Cameron says
Yes, 4×6 photo paper…think I need to get me some bigger paper then! Thanks Cathy!
laura t. says
Guess I was one who triggered this post from the email I sent you the other day about changing frame color. Thanks so much for posting.
RitaQ says
Finally started PL – woohoo. Going digi. Have been collecting your PL digi supplies all last yr. Excited to FINALLY start using them!
Wondering what font size you are using on your Wk in Review intro (eg-Week One). Couldn’t tell from video. Thanks 🙂
cathy says
Thats awesome, Mary! : )
cathy says
Lisa, right now I dont, but you are the second person to ask me this in the last few days! Duly noted! I will make sure to try and add a card like that in the future.
However, you can delete the text layer on some of the cards in the set (that arent built into the frame itself) you could just add in your own text box.
cathy says
Indeed you were! : ) Thanks, it was something Id been wanting to do!
cathy says
Its 15 point, all caps. : )
Clara Palacios says
Thanks. I was just trying to figure that out and you saved me lots of time. I tried hand journaling- yeah not a good idea. LOve your tutorials.
GinaT says
Please? Anyone? Am I the only one having this trouble. I am using PSE 10. Gsssh, I’m so excited to do this. And I thought I had this set but wound up purchasing it. Also got the papers. They are SOOOO cute Cathy!
Over anxious in WI 🙂

Just wanted to let you know that watching your Project Life album last year was such an inspiration. Because I’m probably mildly OCD in so many areas, I couldn’t start it in the middle of the year when I was really getting excited with thoughts of this album. January 1, 2013 brought a discussion to the household about this project and my goals for keeping it up all year. But I wanted it to be a FAMILY project as well. I wanted pictures OF everyone and BY everyone – I flat out told my family I wanted to be in some pictures too. Know what? My kids are stopping to take pictures of EVERYDAY things…my husband is remembering to grab a pic of me with the kids sometime. We now have pictures of mushrooms being cooked and the shopping cart at Kohl’s during our last 30% off frenzy shopping. I wouldn’t have thought to include those before, but I know I will LOVE them in the future.
Every scrapbook before this was chronological (refer to OCD example above)…I do like that, but it was hard to keep up and as much as people are forever saying “stop chronological” I can’t. I figured I can take my time catching up on the last three years chronologically, but if I can stay motivated all year, it’s probably Project Life from now on. For the first time I’m doing everything digitally (still trying to figure out where to print without breaking the bank). I’ve made my own templates (‘cause I’m super frugal along with OCD). I have a “stack” of digital papers/products I’m finally using too and I’m having a ball quickly editing my pics with completely different styles than I normally would and LOVING the results. I’m actually embracing the “bad photo” as a editing challenge (vintage coloring is super helpful with that!)
Anyway – before you fall asleep reading this, THANK YOU from one Twin Cities gal to another! I know you didn’t come up with the system, but you did yours in a way that appealed to me that I hadn’t seen before. Weeks 1 & 2 are done and my son and I took a picture this morning of our new, loved slippers – Week 3? Here we come!

Hey Gina, I thought I had sent you an email on this. Did you get it? This is what I wrote: Hey Gina,
I saw your post and would like to help you.

Do you mean you can’t drag papers into your template?
The file size is 6 wide by 4 tall (inches).
Did you see in the video how I dragged in a digital paper and then grabbed one of the corners to size it down?
: )

You’re awesome….thank you!
Morti says
No, it’s on all keyboards, but sometimes you have to hunt to find it! For example, on mine it would appear to be on the far top left of the keyboard, on the same key as a left slant apostrophe ( ` ) and the horizontal line with a vertical tail ( ¬ ) but when I key the alt gr+ the vertical line I get ¦ ! So I looked on my keyboard and the key that shows ( ¦ ) plus a ( ) actually gives me the vertical line ( | ). If at first you don’t succeed, go a-hunting!
Terri says
thanks so much Cathy I learn so much from you. Is there any way to change the week in review to month in review?
cathy says
Terri, not on the files that have it built into the frame. You can always delete the layers that contain Week in Review on those cards where the text is not part of the frame, and then create your own text box. But, that font has been rasterized so it is not editable as most people will not have that font on their machines. Its not a free one. : )
Ro says
I purchased this but I opened it in CS4 and there is only a background layer, no text layer – seems like the file was flattened…any idea why? Thanks much!
cathy says
Did you unzip the file first? Only asking because sometimes thats a problem. If you are still having the issue, let me know. You may have to redownload the package. : )
