You think it's hard to take nice pictures of your kids? Try husbands.

Cathy ZielskeCZ Life81 Comments

Dan has recently decided to add some facial hair to his look. Granted, he can do this in about three to four hours, such is the growth rate of said facial hair, but I always think he looks so handsome with a little scruff. (Until he goes overboard and does something like this.)

I asked him if I could take a nice photo of him in his handsome beardedness. He said yes.

And it pretty much went downhill from there.

"Sit facing the window."

"No, sit back a little please."

"Okay, sit back up."

"Now turn and face me, and look up a little."

"Bring your chin down a little."

"Okay, that's not what I meant at all. Look here."

(Then He Who Will Not Be Photographed joined in.)

Then I started to get a bit testy. "LOOK HERE and HOLD STILL!"

"Can you just relax your face and try to look handsome?"

In the end, I had to settle for the Double Fisted Chin Rest.

You can't say I didn't try.

It really is a nice beard.

Love this! You guys are awesome.

Love the beard too. My husband has shaved off his scruffiness once in the 15 years we’ve been together and I think its safe to say he will never to do it again.

Aww..I can totally relate to this. My Husband calls me the PL Papparazzi and refused to be photographed and keeps holding his hand against his face. LOL…

Oh Cathy…I am so afraid you just documented what my son’s senior pictures will be like. πŸ™‚

Men!!!! What can we say? I actually like the one where Dan is holding his glasses. Love the “thoughtful” look . . . and the “scruff” is good! But he’ll probably be embarrassed with all the comments about him!

Hey, I consider those great photos! They capture his personality to a ‘T’. It’s the personality that makes that bearded wonder so attractive to you!

You guys are such a hoot! πŸ™‚
And I’m totally doing a page about my own son “He who must not be photographed” – love it!!

I’m still laughing at this as I type this! EXACTLY the way my husband behaves. Drives me nuts and makes me prefer chasing my toddler around! Thanks for the laugh!

he does wear it well, for sure! my hubby would do the same thing. i have an entire series of photos of the two of us where he’s making a different silly face in every shot and i would look at it, and him ask to take another, a nice one, and he’d make another face…like 6 times in a row. the scrapbook page sure turned out cute and i will never forget how he just always tries to get me to laugh. πŸ™‚

Yum! I have to photograph both of my men without knowing (ages 50 and 13.75). I drive them CRAZY! The feeling is mutual!

  10. #31

So true! The long string of funny photos is exactly like what we’ve come to know as his fun personality. We wouldn’t have it any other way. The Zielskes are such a cool family!!

Hilarious! Just last night when i was taking pictures while we were playing cards as a family, whenever i’d take a picture of my husband he’d always make a face. i asked him if everytime i was going to take a picture was he gonna make a face? his response led me to say – please don’t!!!!

  12. #33

I think they are great photos! You captured his personality wonderfully! Too cute. And I love the beard too.

The 4th photo from the top looks just like He Who Will Not be Photographed.

I threaten my husband that I’ll post all the duds on Facebook. I guess that in a way, you did the same thing πŸ™‚ Handsome husbands and their quirks…

  14. #39

I laughed hard because I have the same at home. I would ALWAYS make faces when I want to take some pictures of him. OR it is his profile… Damn ! πŸ˜‰
At least it makes us giggle together, right ?

OMG… I snorted Dr. Pepper right up my nose on this post!!!LOL THIS is so my family… my preschool students wanted to see my kids today. So I whip out the iPhone and pull up my photos…NOT A SINGLE NICE SHOT anywhere!!! They were all goofy eyeball shots, shots of feet, shots of weirdness…just silly stuff all over!! So I had to tell them I would have bring in a shot “I” took….However, in this process I discovered my hooligans have been playing with moms camera an awful lot these days!!!LOL

This is great…life with men is never dull. My dear husband grows a full on beard every Fall and during the Winter it gets to be, shall we say, a vying contender in the World Beard Championships (…so last night he totally surprises me and trims it waaaaay down (which I love!)…but he complains about the ever-increasing amounts of gray. I just call him “distinguished”. Dan is looking rather “distinguished” I’d say!.

  17. #43

Ah, yes… have the opportunity for MANY OUT-TAKES here, too. πŸ™‚ If I ask for a picture of the husband, I get a deer-in-the-headlights (scared) look or he’ll scrunch up his face, giving me an overly toothy smile that often ends in me asking “When IS the last time you brushed your teeth. Eeeew! Gross.” BTW, can’t believe Cole was offended by the BLUR. I thought THAT was a nice touch. I like your final Dan outcome. πŸ™‚

My hubby always does this fake goofy smile (unintentionally), and then gets all snarly when I try to get him to look natural. Thanks for sharing and making us all realize we’re not alone. πŸ™‚

This post made my day! I laughed out loud for real. You are so real and down to earth. Have a great week!

  20. #56

That is hilarious! My kids and husband are the same way…that’s why I started photographing other people. It’s just easier.

Very very funny. My hubby is cute too with a little scruff. But he to likes to play up if I get the camera out – no handsome lovely shots, got to pull the face or do a dorky grin. I just keep taking the photos so that one day I’ll actually capture a the other side of him. Main thing is they are all him. Yes Dan you look good with a bit of a beard! Thanks for the post.

LOL! Okay, so I won’t tell you about taking a family photo this past weekend with 15 people– one-third of which were under the age of six!!! Aaaaacccckkk!
I was so tickled when my hubby came out of the bathroom clean-shaven last week!! πŸ™‚ I think only certain guys can get away with the scruffy look. πŸ˜‰

  23. #59

So awesome! My partner always pulls faces or put something in front of the camera or moves when I try and get pics, too! Dan’s facial expressions are awesome!

  24. #60

I have the same issues with my hubby. I threaten to blog the horrible ones (of which I have too many) if he doesn’t just look normal!

Is it ok to ask, seeing as you mentioned about the quick growing nature of Dan’s beard if he has (or can recommend) anything to stop ingrown hairs? (hubby’s worst nightmare). I know this is going too far in blog commenting but I think I learn more on blogs than I did at school!

  25. #61

LOL! That’s my favorite story this week. Thanks for the laugh!

    ps…I think I have that same husband….and I think I have that same photographer….haha

  26. #62

It’s been driving me nuts all day! I could not remember the actor Dan made me think of in this “shot”…..finally as I was truly about to put head to pillow….Hugh Laurie of House!! With a dash of Ben Affleck sprinkled for goodness! πŸ™‚

My husband decided not to shave for Movember. It was awful. I decided not to touch him or look at him for Movember. He gave in first. Said facial hair was quite cold while riding his bike. I’m sure if had asked him to pose for photos, I would have gotten similar photos.
For what it’s worth…I miss seeing Cole!

    Lauren Hershey

My husband recently acquired this same scruffiness. Can’t say I love the feel, although he looks good. These are hilarious.

  29. #68

Dang, that devolved into some hotness at the end! See, it was worth it. πŸ˜‰

ps. Miss seeing “he who shall remain unphotographed”. Hope he’s doing well.

omg. you described my husband exactly… when I try to take his picture we go through the same routine. maybe they’re twins separated at birth??? literally lol

  31. #77

This was hilarious. I laughed so much my husband had to pause Survivor. I made him read the post while still in fits. Just the sort of thing that would happen here. Ah, thanks for that. πŸ™‚

I haven’t checked your blog in months, but this post made me laugh out loud. Not just “lol,” but for reals. Hugs!
