Can we talk Halloween?

Can we talk Halloween?

IMG_2720

I know it's a little early, but can we talk about Halloweeen?

Specifically, can we talk about your best ideas for decorating and celebrating?

You may or may not know this, but me and Halloween are thick as thieves. I adore Halloween.

I love dressing up. I love all things spooky. I love orange. And black. And heck, even purple.

I recently decided to get a handle on Pinterest. I really don't know what I'm doing, but I know I can curate all sorts of ideas for Halloween. That, and recipes. But right now, I'm just focusing on All Hallow's Eve.

For example, I saw this on Pinterest and fell in mad, crazy love:

617f356ca9dd0ad1d2ab5545b344bc42

MARRY ME NOW!

Seriously. What? I have found my purpose in life. It is to make these mini vampire pumpkins.

And after seeing this, I finally gave myself the official go-ahead to get a Silhouette:

2430d621c3d7d44e3d38e59ae32382bc

BAAAAAAAAATS! I can't even breathe. Seriously. Help me! Help me, for the love of Samhain! My Silhouette Cameo should be here by next Tuesday. Aw yeah, baby.

So it got me thinking. I just know you blog readers have awesome ideas to share. So will you? Post links to cool stuff you love? Or tell me about your best Halloween traditions? Pretty please?

As your reward, you can watch this video from last year with the knowledge that if my foot is ready by Oct. 31st, there may just be a sequel in the works.

BEE DANCE from Cathy Zielske on Vimeo.

Please, share your ideas in the comments. I aim to build the most ginormous Pinterest Halloween board of all time. Or at least one that is bigger than the rest of my boards.

Goulishly yours, Cathy.

On a gloomy day where I am laid up on the couch with a broken toe (not nearly as serious as your food surgery, but I’m milking it for all it’s worth), that made me laugh so hard I had tears running down my face. Then my 15 year old came downstairs and thought I was crying because my toe hurt. And hugged me.

So your video is a PSA really, “Cathy’s Bee Dance…inspiring hugs from teenage boys everywhere.” Or something like that.

    THANK YOU!!!

Those mini pumpkins are cute! We have made shrunken heads from apples. I still have one from my childhood. We call them “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” And set them in a big jar.

We also have a giant kicking dummy (also known as BOB). I like to dress him up in different Halloween costumes. He was a baseball player one year. A hooded ghoul. Last year he was a vampire Chip-n-dales dancer. (He has not legs tho… just a stand.)

Sure hope your foot is ready for another dance routine for us!You are so fun! (Not that you could ever get me to do that!) – but I will watch another routine and cheer you on! Mynew Halloween decorations is going to be making mummies out of soup cans.
    1. spray paint cans black.
    2. use hot glue to attach some cheesecloth to can at bottom back and wrap, leaving a slit where eyes should be on face.
    3. Hot glue google eyes onto the can in the eye slot space.
    4. fill can with Halloween treats and goodies.

    sorry – no pic

Every year I make an eyeball supper, usually the night before Halloween because they are all too excited to eat on the 31st! I make taco flavored meatballs and we have eyeball tacos! (with sour cream and olives on the meatballs for eyes) I also make eyeball jello and eyeballs on a stick (grapes with a bit of cream cheese) There are ton sof cute ideas around for eyeball food. This is one tradition that my family looks forward to every year! We take weird photos of each other with our extra eyeballs too!

I love decorating for Halloween. Last year, I kind of zeroed in on spiders. On Pinterest I saw all kinds of spider egg sac decor and went with it. I have loads of big spiders that look like they are streaming out of my tree, and spider web everywhere. Fun stuff.

I love Halloween too. And our neighborhood goes all out for the event, which makes it fun. And we get HUNDREDS of trick or treaters.

Here are two of my favorites:
This is a wreath I made a few years ago. I don’t have a good photo of mine (note to self… take a photo of it this year!). But this is the pin of the one that inspired me to make mine:
    http://www.pinterest.com/pin/448671181598014328/

These are Frankenstein Jello cups. These were in Family Fun magazine back in 1999 or 2000. I made them for my sons preschool class party and they were a huge hit! The kids are in HS now, but the parents still talk about these. And they are easy to make:

I’m lazy, so I usually take the biggest vases in the house and fill them with Halloween-type stuff.

    One year I filled a long-stem vase with mini pumpkins – http://almostneverclever.wordpress.com/2011/10/13/busy-girl-autumn-decorations/

Last year I filled vases with Halloween candy – didn’t work as well as it got eaten quickly – http://almostneverclever.wordpress.com/2012/10/11/halloween-candy-centerpiece/

The “Bee Dance” just started my day right! I loved it! You will love the Silhouette! There is sooo much you can do with it. Love the fall and Halloween, too, Cathy! My favorite time of year. Getting out all the fall and pumpkins just to inspire me!
You can also carve a large pumpkin and have it “eat” one of the smaller ones! I also am in love with the owl decor that’s out now. I found a beautiful large dark brown Mexican terra-cotta owl at my local Kroger grocery …can’t wait to put the lights in it on the front porch.

Ever since I purchased a Silhouette, I make a vinyl Halloween scene for our main living room window mostly with black vinyl – I’ve used color before but it looks better in all black. Silhouette store has some haunted houses, you can add other things like extra bats, trees, gravestones. I think the name of the cut is “Halloween scene” actually.
I did pumpkins one year in vinyl, bats like the ones you posted on the wall, witches feet, spider webs… OH, and I like to make spiders look like they are coming down the wall, from like under a picture, thermostat, windows, the tv… with a long web behind them. You’ll cut the single web separate and add the spider at the bottom.

This is my favorite time of year also, have enjoyed your Halloween IG photos all weekend. Such cute ideas you have and how busy BEE you are with them.

I don’t do anything to special, for now my fall things are out then in October I put the Halloween stuff out and Thanksgiving in November. I used to cram the house full with all 3 and didn’t look as good that way. Now I like it with just a little bit thru the 3 months.

Oh, I’m so with you – I ADORE Halloween! I’m shocked by how few pins are on my Halloween board… We are finally getting back into throwing our big annual Halloween bash. It was put on temporary hiatus for a few years there while all our friends (and us) had kids. My favorite: no cutesy stuff for me. The invite WILL be creepy and scary. Costumes most definitely ARE required (or I get to provide you one). I decorate as soon as 10/1 hits and don’t take the stuff down until at least 5 days after or so.

Some of my fav ideas: love Dana’s bats, but I hang mine from the ceiling with scotch tape and fishing line. They make fun spooky shadows that way! (Plus errant breezes send them “flying”.) And I always always always freeze a kitchen glove full of water for a spooky surprise in the punch bowl. (Sometimes I even use green sherbert to make it really gross!)

I’m still bdaiss over there. So original. πŸ™‚ See you in the black hole of Pinterest!
