30 Days of Thankful: Gratitude Friday

November 8, 2013

30 Days of Thankful: Gratitude Friday

Seven days in November are already gone and so far, I’m feeling pretty thankful.

I had a conversation with a friend this week and we were talking about the gratitude backlash. Do you know about this? It’s the idea that being grateful for 30 days is ridiculous. That you should be grateful every day, not just for 30 days.

Duh.

I get the whole you should be grateful every day thing. I know it doesn’t always happen in my life. I’m working on that one. Every day. Not just for 30 days in November.

I know personally that this focus does me a lot of good, especially leading up to the holiday season of Christmas. It grounds me and enables me to let the yuletide insanity slide right off my back so I can really enjoy the time with friends and family and truly connect to the joy of the season. It keeps my negativity in check.

So there’s that.

Plus, I’m going to have the cutest little book when this month is over courtesy of Artifact Uprising.

I figured I’d share a few pages each week. I will tell you this: so far? All photos (save for the one of me and Dan) have been shot with my iPhone. My poor DSLR is feeling mighty neglected these days. Is the quality the best it can be? No. But lately, I haven’t really been all that concerned. My phone is capturing what I want to remember. That’s all that matters to me.

It’s so much fun to see your pages this morning, Cathy. I love that you made the first sentence of your journaling bold so that it stands out – gonna’ go back and copy you on that so thanks for the inspiration! Looking forward to following some of the other links here today to see what others are thankful for. Have a great weekend!

Are you, Cathy, and your hubby just the cutest couple ever or what.

Also I wish I had your hair! I am the same age as you, but my hair is white! So I color it. The salt and pepper look suits you so well! OK, enough “fan girling” haha. On a more serious note: I can so relate to what you’re saying about marriage. If you want to make it last, you have to work on it, but it is totally worth it and can be even fun. Best wishes.

I’m loving your pictures and thoughts for the week. So happy that you do this each year. I think it’s very ok that we do this once a year, we have lots to be thankful for all year but this one month we actually document it and that is AWESOME!!

Did I miss your Day one picture??

I am hoping my link is ok, could only link it with my regular blog link not the specific post for this.
Thanks so much for letting us share our month with you. My first week in PL didn’t go well but I’m posting it anyhow along with my Thankful Leaves which is what I really love doing each year.

    Happy Weekend!

“Grateful backlash” reminds me of a conversation I had with my husband eons ago. I’m anti-Valentine’s Day, but my husband [the least demonstrative guy in the world] loves the day. He says that it reminds him – for one single day – to acknowledge those his loves in his life. Okay, with that dose of another perspective, I got it – I’m anti the commercialization, not the sentiment. Personally, 30 Days isn’t something for me* but I realize that some people need a month to celebrate and acknowledge all that they’re happy/grateful for in their lives – just like we need one day to acknowledge those we love in our lives. 🙂 [* – meaning the social media part]

I cannot make up my mind what is better: the photography, the design or the awesomeness of her journaling!

It was fun to read about how you and your daughter are similar and I’m glad to hear both kids are doing well in school.

I think gratitude is a skill, and important skill that needs to be developed. Projects like this are great jump starts to trying to find something to be grateful for every day. Good on you Cathy, such a worthwhile project to be doing.
I’m grateful for having found you and your blog 🙂
