THE STORY OF THE PAGE: Move in day, Freshman year. All documented via iPhone by yours truly.
DESIGN BREAKDOWN: This design features a very symmetrical balance. The three images on the top balance out the three images on the bottom. The title and journaling balance each other out in the center. There is repetition of photo size and color. Plus, an adorable little Bucky Badger, the University of Wisconsin-Madison mascot. It’s a very solid, stable design. Which was appropriate considered move in day at college is anything but solid and stable. I bring a little even steven to the story through design. Ah yes…if only life really worked that way.
TECHNICAL SHIT: I took a digital template, added everything into it, then turned off all the photo layers to print the remaining images and journaling onto white card stock. Then I turned off those layers, turned the photo layers back on, and printed those directly onto a sheet of 8.5 x 11 photo paper. Yep. I still get to glue something down, but man… it’s so simple this way.
BONUS SHIT: This template is available as a free download for the readers of Scrapbook & Cards Today. You can find it on their downloads page! Scroll down to the very bottom to find the links. Enjoy!

Beautiful! So funny you said you brought a little stability with the design, since move-in day wasn’t at all like that. And I love your use of iPhone images. They come out looking so rad on your pages.

I love it! Both of my kids graduated from UW, so we have a lot of Bucky in our scrapbooks for 9 years! What an awesome experience for Aidan! How’s Cole doing as the only child at home?

Hey Cathy-
LOVE this page. . .you always capture such good memories. . .I’d like to ask a favor. Once upon a time, you would display your journaling within your post and I love to read them, but they are difficult to see within the finished page.
Is it possible for you to add the journaling back into the blog so we would be able to read it?
Cathy Zielske says
Can do. 🙂 I was hoping it was readable enough with the larger image sizes, but understand that it is not.

So excited that you’ll be sharing this template. Any idea when it will be posted?
We are going through the same thing – first child off to college and one still at home. This is an interesting new “home-life” isn’t it. A lot quieter. Thank goodness for technology. Texting, facetime and emails are a god-send!!!!!
Cathy Zielske says
Cheryl, hopefully soon! I’ll update this post when it’s there. Sorry for the delay!

Me – like many others – would gladly wait forever…..you are so wonderfully generous to the rest of us. THANK YOU!

I’m going to be driving through campus several times this week. I’m going to be watching out for her . . . if I see her I will have to wave and she will be like . . .who is that old lady waving at me? Little will she know, I’ve been admiring her for years 🙂
You rock Cathy! So happy for you (and Aidan)! Blessings to you!!

CZ, you are one of the only people in blog-land that can make me truly LOL. All of this beautiful, simple, clean-lined imagery and then “technical shit”. I love it.
