Today is the final day of our 3rd Quarter Sale at Designer Digitals. If there’s a project you’ve been eyeing, or a product you think, “Hey, I want to try out Cathy’s Hybrid Helpers templates!” then today is the last day to save.
If you’d like to learn more about using a Photoshop layered template as a base for a traditional scrapbook page (also called a hybrid page), I have just the video for you:
Using a Digital Template to Make a Hybrid Scrapbook Page from Cathy Zielske on Vimeo.
Thank you for your support of CZ Design Digitals. Yes, you make what I do for a living possible.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a date with Day 3 of a Couch to 5K program.

Cathy you SUCK! I knew I should have taken you off the top of my bookmark list a while ago. My lovely hubbie has been asking me why I do not go to digital scrapbooking. I told him it is because I have all of the regular scrapbooking supplies I need to use up first AND then I kept talking. Yep, I should have stopped while the going was good. I went on to tell him about “you” – yep, you Cathy. I told him ALL about you, about your blog and how you “hybrid” your scrapbooking. I told him how you work in 8 1/2″ x 11″. I told him how you use your digital template to print items on to cardstock. How you then cut pictures or pattern paper (if you want to) to lay on top of the cardstock you printed your journaling, etc. on. He “loved” the idea of the 8 1/2″ x 11″ size as my older 12″ x 12″ size is soooo big. He also likes my 8″x8″ size too. So…. guess who is going to the bank today to deposit a check I got yesterday, so I can come home and purchase some of those “WONDERFUL” templates? Yep again, that would be ME this time. Thank you so much Cathy Zielskie! I so hope you are having a terrific day! π

Ha! I love that I suck. This is the best comment ever, Lori. π
You go girl. Rock that 8.5 x 11 size. You know, my whole reason of doing it was because I didn’t have a 12 x 12 printer and I wanted to print stuff out directly onto the background of my page. Ergo, 8.5 x 11. Then Stacy Julians tells me in the very beginning days of scrapbooking, that WAS the size. That 12 x 12 emerged a bit later and took over.
Enjoy and enjoy the savings you are about to receive! ha!

Cathy, just to let you know. I am a little over $40 “richer”! I can not wait to play, but that is after I get my craft room in order. Bummer π
Kathy says
So when you print the photo you run an entire piece of photo paper to get just that photo? Is there a way to get more use from the photo paper? This is the part that has been keeping me away from hybrid!
Cathy Zielske says
Kathy, it depends on the size of the photo. I try to fit as many photos onto one sheet as possible. But, for me, it evens out one major way: convenience. I can print at home when I’m ready to scrapbook. That’s huge for me in terms of getting a page done. It’s easier than uploading a photo and leaving my house to pick it up.
It balances out with cost, too. I don’t scrapbook more than say, four pages or so a month. So I’m not burning through my ink at a crazy speed. Plus, I buy bulk packs of photo paper and they tend to last me a long time, like 6 months or more, depending on what projects I’m scrapbooking about. π

Hi Cathy! Wow so I just made my first purchases of some of your layered templates – you didn’t mention here, but maybe you have previously, how they each come with a pdf with some extra details, including what fonts are used and some tips!! That was an unexpected surprise, plus I love the links to the videos where available, and other links that I saw while I was excitedly clicking open like 5 pdf’s at once trying to quickly read them! I am so excited to try them out (been meaning to for awhile)! Best wishes for your couch to 5K! I just keep nursing my 13 month old daughter to keep in shape. If I just nurse her for the rest of my life, then I can just eat whatever I want… that is an option, no? π Thanks again for your work and effort into your digital products!
Cathy Zielske says
I just like that to be a surprise!
Actually, I include instructions, font info and some times, tips for the page with every template. π

Thanks Cathy! I made my first “CZDesign” -like layout, it was super easy and fun, and I made it 12×12 onto my good old-fashioned patterned background paper π

Love the video. Love the layout. Love and envy your ability to create meaningful personality layouts. Event layouts are easy and fun. but words don’t come easy to me, so I really struggle to create layout that document those people that are important in my life. Layout templates like this one help so much to get me started w/the writing. Thanks!
Cathy Zielske says
Mary, that’s so great to hear. That is my goal with many of my templates!
Susan says
I’ve already turned two of the several (several, meaning more than a few) newly purchased CZ 8.5×11 templates into 12 x 12 – no offense!!

Go Susan!
