Another month has come and gone and I sat down and kicked out a handful of pages to add to my digital book for 2015. I took over 300 photos, but am only using a handful. A lot of the shots I take are for my blog and I end up taking tons of shots of the same thing, so it inflates my monthly shot number. I usually love March but this year, I’m happy that April has shown up. Here are the pages I’m adding to my book.
I’m keeping with the black on white approach on the first page of each month. I like that consistency, plus I’m a fan of black and white photos, so, you know, bonus. I’m also adding one Project Life card from my Value Kit (and I promise as soon as they release the digital set, I’ll let you know!)
Were there more photos that could’ve made the cut? Sure. But this just feels right to me this year. I am craving simplicity more than ever and this is helping on so many levels. Just knowing that I can quickly create a few pages for each month is pretty cool.
And I’m nothing, if not all about the cool.
Or something like that.

Love this! I purchased the twelve months cards (and your templates which I adore). Not sure what I am doing wrong but I am having trouble changing the colors on the monthly cards. Love the clean look of the white background you do on yours. Any chance for some help or a tutorial?

Hey Lori, maybe I can help!
To change the color of the monthly text (which is a graphic on each file, on it’s own layer), click on the Month name with the Move Tool, then go to Edit > Fill Layer… and you can choose a color from the options under Contents. Don’t forget to have Preserve Transparency checked, or the color will fill the whole layer.
Does this help?
Once you change the color of the word, you can then Flatten the card file if you like, then drag it into the template, size it down a bit and clip into place.

Lori, definitely do exactly what Cathy said! I was trying to recolor by clicking on each item with the paint bucket tool, and couldn’t figure out why everything was coming out all jaggedy and pixelated. Oops.

YAYAYAY! I love the monthly dose of inspiration! Maybe I can get myself further along than January once I get some time…
Will the digital version of your Project Life kit be available as layered files, so that we can easily adjust the color schemes? Or are they going to just be JPGs? I love to buy and use them, but JPGs are not very versatile for me.
Thanks!
Cathy Zielske says
Hey Debby,
The Project Life digital files are only sold as JPEGs. That’s the standard format from PL Central. : ( Sorry about that!

Awww…rats. I was worried that was how it would be.
Any chance you might be coming out with more of your own general layered filler cards that lend themselves to your Minimal Basic series/aesthetic? I’m sure you have tons of spare to to whip those right up. 😀 But seriously, it would be really wonderful.

I need to think about this for future sets, yes. I plan to get back to working on PL style cards very soon and will keep this in mind. I know I would like to change all the colors, too!

Great minds think alike – I just posted an inquiry about an ETA on your (amazing) digital PL kit on BeckyHiggins.com. No response as yet.
