Hello Day Two!
Today was about simplicity and GOOOOOOOLD! (Said, obviously, in my best Goldmember accent.)
Yes, ladies, it’s true. I am MINC-ing it up! I’ve had my Minc for less than a week, but I can see how much fun it’s going to be to put gooooooold on things.
Day Two’s story is about rearranging my living room for the first time in over 15 years. I know. That might sound a little nutty but normally, I treat the living room like a walk through and now, I feel like I just want to settle in with a cup of tea, a good book or some form of Apple device. Long story short: it’s making me happy.
Another thing that makes me happy? Giving free things out during the holidays and today I have this:
If you like the way I’m doing my 3 x 4 day cards, you can use them, too! I’ve also included printable PDFs in black which if printed onto a laser printer will work with a Minc! You can stamp or add numbers to your cards (or any little embellishments!) that you like. Photoshop files are included with templates for the numbers. Click on the image above to download and enjoy!
Finally, on Facebook in the December Daily Facebook group, I learned how to create a bokeh effect on your iPhone using the Camera+ app. Read how here. Kind of a cool effect! I added the image to one of my Simple 6 x 8 free templates and dropped in a digital stamp, changed it to white and dialed back the opacity for a nice see through effect.
Loving this project. It feels good to do a little storytelling and hybrid play every day.

I love how you did this page! I learned the bokeh trick as well and I watched your video on making the 2×2 squares. I really think I’m ready to purchase my first set of digital papers! I’m gonna put my big girl panties on this weekend and try my hand at making some 2×2’s. Wish me luck and thanks for the inspiration (and freebie)!
Cathy Zielske says
Heidi, you’ve never play with any digital papers for hybrid stuff? Oh it IS fun! 🙂
heidig says
Nope, I’m easily frustrated with Photoshop but your videos are so detailed that I really have made some strides with it. Baby steps though, hence the first purchase of digital paper. I can do this!!

This is so cool! I love how you did this page! Thank you SO MUCH for sharing my post! I really want to get into scrapbooking next year, but I’ve been so intimidated!
Cathy Zielske says
LaShawn, i can see how what you see on blogs during this holiday season would be intimidating. I forget that sometimes. I mean, I’ve been working as a graphic designer since I was 24 years old and so for me, it’s second nature now to play with stuff and make it look good.
One of the key things to keep in mind is that the most important thing is just saving stories. It’s not just about how cute stuff looks and what not, but it’s giving context to photos, sharing personal stories… that’s the stuff that makes scrapbooking sustainable!
One of these years I’m going to create a kind of intro to scrapbooking class… putting that on my list of things to do!

Soooo pretty! Love the bokeh tree shot! And yay for re-arranging your living room. It is awesome how much excitement something like that seems to put back into a room 🙂
Nicole M. says
Oh, and thank-you for the awesome freebie! Definitely will use this in my DD 🙂

I am loving your December Daily Cathy and I really enjoyed your video – at last I know how to make templates in PSE! Many thanks for the freebie number cards – they look devine in the gold!! I don’t know much about the Minc (I am just mastering my new fuse tool at present) will it work with an inkjet printer?
Ruth says
Your December Daily is looking really good Cathy. Thanks so much for the video I have learnt so much from it and now know how to make a template in PSE! Many thanks also for the freebie number cards your 01 looks devine in the gold. I don’t know much about the minc (just trying to master my new fuse tool at present). Could I use it with an inkjet printer or does it have to be laser?
Cathy Zielske says
Hey Ruth! Your comment showed up! 🙂 And yes, laser or toner based, such as a copy machine.
Ruth says
That’s odd Cathy because I have only just read your e-mail and was going to try a different browser – ah well it seems to be working and I’ll know what to do if it plays up again:)
Anne says
Thank you so much – you are too generous!!
Karen Clinkinbeard says
Thanks so much for the freebie, will be so fun to use. Here’s wishing I had a Minc! Guess I’d better tell Santa!
Jill S. says
Thanks for the awesome freebie! Your bokeh tree looks great. I want to try this with my iPhone (once we get the tree up, of course!).
Kathy says
Thanks so much for the freebie. I can’t wait to try the bokeh effect. My tree is up, but of course lights in 2 areas are out. Just got back from town and bought some more to add, but had to get my Cathy fix first!!
Robyn says
How do you do the bokeh effect on the iPhone?
Cathy Zielske says
Robyn, there’s a link in the paragraph beneath the big photo above! It’ll take you to the place I learned it from!
JoLynn says
Thanks for the free number card template. Score! Your Bokeh shot looks great. And congrats on changing your room up. Gotta say, ours stays pretty much the same as well.
