STORY OF THE PAGE: It was the first big ultimate tournament of the season, all the way over in Madison, Wis. Known as the Madison Mudbath, one full day of upper 40s and rain seemed fitting. But on the second day, the rain stopped and I realized how awesome it is that my kids does sports and that I get to take pictures of him.
DESIGN STUFF: This page was directly lifted from a layout in the Spring issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today. I shared this over on the SCT blog on International Scrapbook Day over the weekend. The layout I chose was designed by a reader named Krista Wells and you can find it on page 70.
Now you know me—I love a simple layout featuring a single photo and this designed offered simple ways to do just that.
I have repetition of patterned papers, of colors, of treatments. I pulled the color for the word “FRIS” out of the photo using the Eyedropper Tool. I repeated simple Studio Calico patterned papers and font treatments. (Instant that title font rad? It’s called Intro Rust and it’s free!)
Normally, I don’t do journal blocks that are this wide. Why? The longer the lines, the harder they are for the eye to follow. In this case, because I was copying another design, I made sure to have ample leading (the space between the lines) to ensure a higher readability.
TECHNICAL SHIT: Here’s the fun part: I’m giving you the base template for free! Click on the image below to download the digital package. Instructions are included! For use with Photoshop or Photoshop Elements only.
HYBRID SCRAPBOOKING TIPS: Using a template like this is easy! You turn off layers to print just the elements you need. Here, you would turn off the photo layer, the mat layer and the small text here layers to print the base of your page. Then, you could turn the small text here layers back on, edit the text and the colors, and print that out onto white cardstock to trim and use on your page. Enjoy and if you make a page and post it on social media, tag me with @czdesign so I can see what you create!
