The Fall issue of Scrapbook & Cards Today is out now! You can read the full issue online here. In this issue, I cover the topic of size or contrast in design. You may already know this, but size most definitely matters in great design! My two layouts illustrate a few solid examples of using contrast to create an engaging page layout. Shall we jump in? Let’s look at the first page:
I like big type. I cannot lie. And when you combine a big font with a personal die cutter (I use the Silhouette Cameo), you can really create titles that really jump off the page with contrast. Here I’ve used a free font (Bebas Neue) with a much smaller (and very different in style font) called Thirsty Soft. Remember, contrast relies on making things different, whether it’s in size or in style. You can read more about this page in my article online!
Next up, a two-page digital spread featuring a big-assed photo that makes a statement:
Aside from that swoon-worthy photo of the captain of the ultimate team (sigh), we’ve got one giant photo to contrast against the facing page. Plus, more big type paired with a small subhead. Oh, it’s a contrast-o-rama, ladies.

I am a past subscriber, but have been purchasing mine at Barnes&Noble, a good way to support both things that I love; actual scrapbook magazines and stand-alone book stores. Love this magazine and I’m so glad you are involved in its production.

Daaay-yuummmmm! LOVE the 2-page spread colors and repetition with the star and pattern on the top left and bottom right. And you’re right! Cole is swoon-worthy – growing up so fast…
