STORY OF THE PAGE: I’m a sucker for a good list, and last week I designed a digital template to celebrate my favorite 12 photos from 2016. I approached it very methodically: I looked at each month from my Scrapbook Your Year project, and picked my favorite shot from that month. I added one descriptive line for journaling. I repeated this 11 more times. I did not seek familial equity. I picked my favorite shot from each month period. It was kind of fun to do.
DESIGN STUFF: This two page design is fairly symmetrical if you consider both the photo collage and the journal block as visual equals. Remember, symmetry seeks balance on each side from left to right, or top to bottom, or both. One simple epoxy heart repeats twice (and yes, I labored over whether or not it was even needed.) The equal margin space also repeats and reflects from left to right. So simple. So exactly how I want to save my stories.
TECHNICAL SHIT: This is purely hybrid. Add the photos using Photoshop, print onto photo paper. (I printed the collage at 80% side and added the Crop Marks feature so I’d have an easy trimming guide. I printed the journal side the same way.) Trim, mount onto neutral card stock and voila, one year of my favorite photos saved.
The finished spread will go into my Family album. This binder holds any layouts that includes two or more members of my Zielske tribe.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST… I have a new preorder going for my 3 x 4 Bitty Fitness Stamp Set. This little set sells out faster than I can stock it, so I’m doing a new preorder for those people who want to get their hands on it. You will be billed at the time of preorder. Preorder closed Tuesday at 9 a.m. CST. I’m hoping for less than a two-week turnaround from my US manufacturer.

I love this idea. I went back thru my PL books and the ones I loved, content wise, were the ones I was diligent with adding a page here and there in different sizes containing different things from life or journal pages. I’m hoping to be more involved this year with the documentation rather than just keeping my head above water…here’s a little motivation for some variety. Thanks!

Love the little stamps, will they be available digital eventually?
Marlies says
I have the same question as Maribel. I would love to have a digital version of the Fitness stamp set!
Cathy Zielske says
Yes! I can put them in the shop this week! Didn’t even think about that. Thanks for the reminder.

Cathy – can the text in the 12 Favourite Photos be changed. I’m Canadian, eh! and we use the british spelling. Also I would like to change “of the year” to be different text. I am doing a book of remembrance and would like to change that to the person’s name.
Cathy Zielske says
Hi Brenda, unfortunately, no… that is a graphic using a font that is not available for free.
That said, you can just delete it and add a new text box and choose a font of your own, too. 🙂
Often, I design with fonts that I love and have to convert them to graphics because they are not free. It allows me to have the design be exactly as it was intended to look.
Sorry!

I’m curious…did you pick the 12 pictures because of the pictures or because of the stories behind them? Or maybe a little of both? 😉
Cathy Zielske says
A little of both. 🙂
