Craft room tours on YouTube. (And the Big Shot on my work table, but that’s for another post…)
Maybe it’s my age. Maybe it’s my deep and abiding love for organization that is thwarted every day by my actual time and energy devoted to organizing (i.e. very, very little). Maybe it’s just that voyeuristic side of me that wonders what other people do with their creative supplies and spaces.
Whatever it is, I’ve been watching videos and thinking, “How could I improve my dining craft room set up?”
Here are a few of the videos I’ve watched recently:
Jennifer McGuire—She is both my friend and a crafting, card-making guru. It’s not hard to believe this crafty mama was an engineer in a past life. I can’t wait for the video she does of her new room. That is all.
Kristina Werner—Another crafty guru (and friend of Jennifer’s), I loved seeing how she turned her room into a creative space.
Laura Sterckx—I stumbled on this while browsing YouTube and loved both her accent and her simple approach.
I would love to hear about your favorite craft room tours! If my Comments section won’t let you share a link (I’ve got some Spam filters that always seem to wreak havoc with comments and links) then just tell me the name of the clip.
I know there are a few ways people can look at craft room tour clips: 1. Get really jealous and think, “Whatever!”, 2. Just take a few ideas here and there to incorporate, or 3) Just zone out and relax while seeing how other makers make it work. (I fall into categories 2 and 3 most of the time.
I’m definitely getting some ideas about possibly adding a new cabinet to my space, but let’s not tell Dan about that just yet, okay?
Let me know whose rooms you’ve seen online and love.
(If you missed my craft room post, find it here.)

There must be something in the air! This is exactly what I’m immersed in—Reorganization. I have a combo scrap “room”: guest room + dining table. The guest room is such a mess & whenever we’re going to have overnight guests, I have to haul tons to my bedroom or downstairs. I’ve been looking for ways to have things better organized & so they don’t look so awful (especially need to clear off the dresser & get things off the floor!). It’s all your fault, Cathy (well, that & the fact we will have a guest for a week in April). I started your SYY class, & in the process I got to thinking about my traditional supplies. Ugh. And, I bought some new stamping & embossing items but had no place for them. Over the years, I’ve also scrounged & purchased so many storage things, so it just is a hodgepodge. I at least would like it to look neat.
So, I have been looking at scrap room ideas too. Scrapbook.com has a ton of examples. I especially like Mendi Yoshikawa at https://www.scrapbook.com/myplace/index.php?mod=galleries&u=817285&type=5&size=0
I’ve learned I prefer clear containers so I can see what’s in them. She shows several examples—like the fridge bins, which I did buy & love. Beware: there are so many examples you can get caught up & spend a whole day looking! Have fun.

Will have to check them out! I love Scrapbook.com!

FYI, I went looking for more of the clear fridge containers mentioned in Laura’s video—InterDesign products. A lot of places carry them: Walmart, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond. Gotta get some more.
Cathy Zielske says
I have one because of watching Jen McGuire’s video a while ago. Great storage containers!
Cathy says
I have picked those up at Marshall’s as well for less money than other stores.
Cathy Zielske says
Oh good tip! Might have to check my local Marshalls out!

Cathy-
There are very few crafty people I follow, but you have mentioned 2 of my absolute favorites above! Kristina and Jennifer do amazing work and their cards would put Hallmark and American Greetings to shame! My other 2 favorite are of course you and Ali Edwards. You ladies inspire me to be a better crafter and I thank you for that.
I was fortunate enough with our last move to be able to create my own craft room and I do love it. . . a lot of creative energy in one spot. Kristina’s new space is my dream and I also can’t wait to see Jennifer’s new space as well. . .I thank all of you for doing what you do!!

I could get lost in a sea of Youtube videos so easily!!! Thus getting absolutely no work done. I did that yesterday for a bit except it was with IKEA haul videos (I am heading to one for the first time this weekend). So suffice it to say there is a video of everything out there now!

Kathy Racoosin (thedailymarker.com) has a really nice room. It’s huge with lots of windows! I haven’t seen a lot of craft room tours, other than Jennifer and Kristina and I think I saw Laura’s quite a while ago. I fall into categories two and three as well. There’s no point in being jealous. If I had jobs like theirs, I would hope to have a really nice room as well! In fact, I have a pretty nice room that is highly sufficient, if I would keep it clean! ?
Maybe you need one of those rolling carts from IKEA. You could keep all your big shot stuff on it!
Cathy Zielske says
Oh, right! I have heard of her and will definitely check her out. (Also, got your adorable card! THANK YOU!)
And yeah, those rolling carts! Not a bad call! I actually have an idea percolating right now involved one 4 x 4 Kallax shelf… just have to get Dan to sign off on it. But… I have to tell him about the idea first. Lol!

I am suggesting fellow Canadian Vicki Boutin who you are already friends with. Her studio space is awesome too. http://vickiboutin.typepad.com/vicki_boutin/my-studio.html. If you go to her website you can see it under My Studio. It is pictures not video though. Love her and her space. 🙂
Cathy Zielske says
Okay, I adore Vicki, so I’m totally checking that out tonight!

I remember that very first issue of “Creative Spaces” published by Creating Keepsakes. Still have it, love it and look at it every once in awhile. (Also have volumes 1 & 2 although not as good as the first issue).

Jana Eubank just did a scrap room tour. She actually broke it into 3 parts so you could really see the details of her space. Here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3x7n6yf8wlY&t=1270s
Cathy Zielske says
Will add that to my list! 🙂 Thank you!

Here is my scraproom/studio/office! I was inspired by the scrapbook.com class that Jill taught to organize one week at a time. Scroll down a bit to see lots of photos on how my bits are stored and easily found…because isn’t that the issue!!!! Copy and paste the link.

I bet you didn’t know you already have a card stock lounge (at 1:46 in the video)!
Also, if Dan really loved you, he would design AND build you a SURPRISE craft room like this husband did here, complete with a refrigerator and all!

Enjoy the music on this video also! 🙂

I just mucked mine out. I live in the city in a 100+ year old Queen Anne (that looks like a Craftsman). We are newish empty nesters. Life is good. I spent a lot of time dragging all my crap up to the attic, or encouraging my lovely children and their boyfriends to do the same. Now I have a little suite up here complete with a tiny kitchenette area, bathroom and bedroom. I could just move in up here but my husband would sulk. I threw some photos on my Instagram. https://www.instagram.com/p/BSCPiNNA9iU/?taken-by=wordfishy
