Neat & Tangled 5th Birthday Blog Hop + Giveaway

August 11, 2017

Neat & Tangled 5th Birthday Blog Hop + Giveaway

cathyzielske.com
Well they say there is a first for everything and today I’m honored to be part of the 5th Birthday Bash Blog Hop for Neat & Tangled. Neat & Tangled, if you recall, is the company responsible for the Polygon Cover Plate die, and that die was yet one more stone in my Path to Becoming Obsessed with Cardmaking (see this post for the evidence!) So when they asked if I’d be interested in joining the blog hop, my answer was an unequivocal Oh, HELL to the yes!

cathyzielske.com
I am pretty new to the whole stencil thing, and this balloon duo set was my kind of set: simple and easy to use! I decided to use watercolor cardstock because I wanted to use Distress Oxides and a little water. I figured it’d keep my paper less warp-y. I taped down one stencil, used a mini blending tool, and just filled in ink color. Then I moved the stencil around and repeated the process.

cathyzielske.com
Once the balloons were in place, I used my Distress Sprayer to spritz a bit of water onto the paper. Once it was dry, I cut it out using one of my Lawn Fawn Stitched Rectangle dies (the 4.5 x 3.25 size).

Next I stamped the word ‘hooray’ using my Misti Tool (because honestly I cannot stamp a clean image without that thing! #getafrickinmisti) using Picked Raspberry Distress Oxide to match the balloons. I stamped it two times to get a nice solid image. Again, only possible because of the genius of the Misti. Once the ink was dry I used the coordinating die to cut out the title.

The final step was to cut a stitched panel from some Neenah Solar White 80# cardstock that was 4.25 x 5.5 to mount onto a 4.25 x 5.5 card base cut from some Neenah Solar White 110# cardstock. I love using the heavier cardstock to build my cards on. You think you don’t need two weights. Oh, but that is where you are wrong, my friends.

I adhered the balloon panel to the card base using some Fun Foam, then added the title to the balloon panel using some foam tape adhesive. Done and done! Hooray, indeed!

Oh wow! I hadn’t thought of using a stencil this way! My creative muse is hiding under a rock for a month or so. I’ve the Distressed Oxide stamp pads (first release) since April or May and STILL haven’t used them. Okay, I guess my muse has been gone for longer than a month. Once this dang cold is gone, I need to get into my crafting room and.. well.. craft! 😉

So funny! I love that you came to cardmaking from scrapbooking. I totally loved paper (and even bought some) but resisted all paper craft for years because I knew it would be addicting. I was right. I started out with one pack of cardstock, some patterned paper, and a pack of die cuts to make some Christmas cards. Before I was done, I had more cards than the number of people I even know! I can manage cards, but they have taken over a significant part of my house. Glad to have you on board for this very special birthday celebration.

Wonderful card! Love how you used the balloons as a background without overlapping them and they look great all water sprinkley.

Such a cheerful card. Cannot wait to try the second batch of DOIs that arrived earlier this week and have a play with my new N&T goodies that also arrived this week.

What a fun card! The balloons are a natural sign to “celebrate” and the N&T “hooray” is the perfect sentiment to get the festivities started!! 🙂

Love the card Cathy! I love all the cards you’ve been making lately! I’m feeling super inspired right now, but I’m lacking the time to actually go and make anything (I have a 1 year old). I figure I’ll just store up all this inspiration and when I find time to actually create, it will explode all over and I will make several masterpieces. That’s how it works right? ?

I love balloons! You can do so much with them like glitter, different colors and polka dots. I also love them just because balloons are so cool in general. Your card is so colorful and that’s the way all greeting cards should be. I see you also used my favorite color yellow to color one of your balloons. I can think of a lot of people who would love to have this card, and that includes me. Thanks for showing us your colorful card and for giving us the chance to win something.

Love this bright and happy design, Cathy — that would bring a smile to anyone’s face 🙂 Distress oxides are seriously one of the best craft investments I’ve made, both in terms of amount of usage and enjoyment from them. Tim Holtz is some kind of genius (this I knew already) I really admire the enthusiasm and talent with which you’ve embraced card making — love that you’re sharing that whole process so openly, too.
Happy birthday to Neat and Tangled, one of my favourite Stamp companies! Awesome new release, as always.
