Wow. It’s been a while since I’ve done a list of ing words that illustrate what’s been going on in my life. Shall we?
Waiting on lots of schools. How did life go by this quickly in that at present, we are waiting to find out how many law schools offer admission to my daughter (so far there have been at least four, University of Minnesota, University of Wisconsin–Madison, Notre Dame and St. Thomas University), and waiting to find out how many schools offer admission to my hopefully soon-to-be undergrad, Cole (so far there have been three, University of Redlands, Colorado State and the University of Minnesota–Duluth.) Aidan is waiting on a few more. Cole is waiting on a few more. Mama wishes she could find a pot of gold next month, so I’ll be on the hunt for a leprechaun.
Hoping that Cole makes the US World Ultimate team for ages 20 and under, competing late this summer up in Ontario at the World Championships. He and his two other captains from his high school were among the 200 invited from across the country to try out for the team. This would be a huge honor for him, but either way, he had a great trip out to the Bay Area earlier this month for tryouts. (Not familiar with Ultimate? Here’s a video voiced by a man with a lovely British accent who explains it pretty well.)
Making lots of cards. I did a blog post about cards last year, and it more or less captured why this whole foray has been so satisfying for me, but the reality is: it’s just freaking FUN. I love playing with all this card stuff, people. It’s kind of like trying to tell non-scrapbookers how much you love scrapbooking. It’s the same thing with card making and it’s also pushing me to learn new things, as well as dive into the world of hands-on, how-to videos (have you subscribed to my YouTube channel yet?) It also lets me work my cleaner, simpler aesthetic into the process as well, like the image above, which is pretty simple if you ask me, but was really fun to make. Oh, and the other fun part? BUYING ALL THE THINGS.
Watching a lot of YouTube videos, but especially those by my new friend Gina K. of Gina K. Designs. If you want to watch someone who films her videos in real time and really shows you some gorgeous, do-able techniques for cards, subscribe to her channel! The Thinking of You card and the one directly above? All Gina K. products! (I used the Hearts & Flowers Stamp TV kit, plus her Innocent Pink cardstock and matching envelopes. I used her Cherry Red cardstock and her Fine Detail Gold powder for the You Have My Heart card. I have been watching videos from Gina pretty much every day. She has over 600 of them, I believe. Check her out if you’re interested in card making. She’s absolutely adorable and will make you think, “Hey, I could do this!” Plus, she’s a woman running her own business and I love, love supporting my fellow crafty entrepreneurs.
Loving the Olympics. I can’t help it. I love ’em. I don’t care what’s on. Just turn that TV to Olympics. Slope Style? Perfect. Bi-athalon? Bring it ON!
Having fun on Instagram. I have two accounts. One is @czdesign and the other is @cathyzielske. The latter is my original IG account, but the CZ Design one is where I feel like I have all the fun. I wanted one account where I could share crafty shit with no apologies. As you can imagine, the CZ Design account is hopping these days; the other? Not quite as much. Plus I get SO many creepy men sending me direct messages on my other account. For some reason, they haven’t followed me over to the crafty one. Plus, I post to my story almost daily and sometimes it’s entertaining. What can I say? I don’t get out much. And yes, my hair is another thing I’m loving. For some reason, it looks less gray and I swear, I didn’t touch it.
Working on myself. There’s a lot of stuff brewing in this 51-year-old head. I hope to get my thoughts around some of it and write about it at some point. Suffice to say I’m grateful for this life of mine and I want to be a woman I can admire. So there’s that.
What are you doing these days? Share, if you’re so inclined.

Woo hoo for Colorado State! I have a senior and junior, and we live in CO, so let me know if I can help!
Cathy Zielske says
Ohhh. Good to know! I really have no idea where this boy will land!
Gina says
Cathy! Thank you for you kind words! I adore you!! All of that waiting and wondering is sometimes harder on Mom that on the kids, isn’t it? You have two amazing kids! Isn’t a surprise thought because the apple doesn’t fall far! ❤️
Cathy Zielske says
Gina, I’m just gonna say it: you da best. : ) Really grateful to be getting to know you and I am dreaming of setting foot in your store one day! 🙂
Gina says
And apparently I can’t type. Sorry for the typos! I need smaller thumbs for this phone. ☺️
Laura says
I, too, am all-about-the-Olympics right now. The time difference is, like, killing me. #notasyoungasiusedtobe All the best figure skaters are on after the late news.
Ingrid says
I guess the Ontario you’re talking about is NOT the province of Canada that I live in?
Actually, if it is, I might drive to that tournament just to meet yoy!
Loving the Olympics as well…
This post inspired me to also make a list….
Cathy Zielske says
It IS Canada! Waterloo, to be precise! 🙂
Kirsten says
So the World Juniors tournament is in Waterloo.
Know what else is in Waterloo? A SUPER little LSS that you would have to drop by to say hi to adoring fans in the KW (kitchener-waterloo) region!!! Fingers crossed!
Cathy Zielske says
WHAAAAAT? Um, I would totally do that. Even though I’m an introvert and it would make me sweat like crazy. I would do that! And yep, I hope we are Waterloo-bound!
Stephanie Robertson says
I am so sure the local scrapbook store would love to have you!!! I live about a half an hour from Waterloo and I would give my first born child… lol…to meet you!! You are my hero in so many ways… not just in scrapbooking. Your way of life gives me direction!!! So do it!! The store is called Two Scrapbook Friends and it is owned by Carolyn Wollff…
Cathy Zielske says
Well let’s keep our fingers crossed that Cole makes the team!
Greta Sutherland says
Glad to see orange (ish) back in the game. It’s such a great color on you!
RIP orange sweatshirt
Cathy Zielske says
You know I still have that sweatshirt… it’s in my closet, in a sacred place.
Kim says
Oh, I hope Aidan decides to say Go Irish! ?☘️☘️
Cathy Zielske says
She’s definitely planning to visit this spring!
Annabet Soehner says
My senior daughter is considering Colorado State as well! So lucky that these kids have so many options to choose from!
Cathy Zielske says
So exciting!
Sue O says
I’m loving how your hair is graying! (Hope that’s not too weird) 🙂
Cathy Zielske says
Not too weird and thank you! I waffle at times, thinking I could color it and might look younger, but then again, the last time I did, I got the wrong box of hair color and had a blue black and it was just awful. After that I said never again!
Deborah P says
I’m loving the twinkling way you are ending your stories! Makes me laugh every time. Thank you!
Cathy Zielske says
Oh, that makes me laugh, too! Every time!
Julie says
Kudos to Aidan and Cole and to Mom and Dad, It’s been so much fun watching them grow into amazing young people. I’m another one who would love to have a glass of wine ( or visit with you at the Scrapbook Store) with you if you do make it to Waterloo! Good luck to Cole.
Cathy Zielske says
It’s been fun for us, too! : ) But ho, how the time flies.
RitaQ says
We’ll have an entire CZ fan club stalking her in Waterloo!
Cathy Zielske says
I had no idea it was such a hotbed of scrapbooking. lol!
RitaQ says
Ps… good luck to Cole on his tryouts!
Candace says
Waiting never ends. I am waiting to find out if my granddaughter gets accepted to A&M or University of Texas. UT is almost impossible to get into. Mandatory acceptance to anyone in top 7% of their class and with a graduating class of over 1500, probably not happening for her.
Cathy Zielske says
Our state school, U of M, is also hard to get into these days. Cole has applied there, too. He is in at the Duluth campus but we’re hoping to get an offer from the U in Minneapolis, too!
Suzy says
Good luck to your kiddos! Hope the waiting is over soon. Love me some Olympics too! And this that you just said? LOVE! “I’m grateful for this life of mine and I want to be a woman I can admire.” I feel the same way!
Cathy Zielske says
Working on it every day!
Shawn Wenrich says
Hi Cathy, I just wanted to say that I’m thrilled that someone I’ve admired for so many years in the scrapbooking world has now entered the cardmaking journey. I adore watching you progress as I did several years ago. Your enthusiasm is refreshing and reminds me of why I love this hobby so much. The way you’ve moved your clean style to cardmaking is something I truly enjoy. Every project you make is so you! So what am I doing? My baby girl started college this year. She’s only two hours away but it feels like thousands of miles when I’m missing her running errands with me or bugging me to buy her clothes or bake some brownies. Summer can’t get here fast enough!
