card making at cathyzielske.com

It’s blog hop time at Simon Says Stamp to celebrate the Friendly Frolic release! Today I have a card that is a little bit whimsical and little bit graphic.

card making at cathyzielske.com

You should know I am not an expert of watercolor by any stretch, and so today I’m using Tim Holtz Distress Inks to color in a huge, sketchy flower and combining that with my brand new Tabbed Sentiments for a cool look!

card making at cathyzielske.com

True story: I had NO idea the big yellow flower was actually a bud and foliage surrounding it until I saw someone else’s use of this set. I just thought it was a big-assed flower. So I guess you could say I kept it OVERLY simple!

Check out the video to see how I put this card project together!

HOP DETAILS: Simon Says Stamp is giving away a $25 coupon to every stop on the blog hop! This means you can leave a comment here and on every stop along the way to increase your chances. Winners will be posted on the Simon Says Stamp blog next Wednesday.

Your olive green “I don’t know what that thing is” is a Lotus Pod… usually brown, but I think it looks pretty in olive 🙂 I don’t think it matters if we paint things the correct color as long as we love the results and had fun during the process. You got a very graphic look from your style while others may go for a more realistic look. Both are beautiful, as well as everything in between. The point is to paint, have fun, and learn something new each time.

    nice!

when you used the brush to get rid of the specks of powder, it didn’t work, I’m still left with marks on my laptop screen, could you give it another go over?
*what do you mean that’s not going to work from the inside*

So pretty! I’m so interested in learning how to stamp and color in like this, I’ve only done “regular” stamping so far. I’ll be retiring within the year and spending time learning this craft is high up there on my list! Trying to buy the supplies and learn the basic “how to’s” now.

  58. #216

    Patricia Wilson

The sketched Lotus stamp is beautiful and love what you did with it. You encouraged me to watercolor as I’m afraid it won’t look right but your admission that you aren’t a watercolor person makes me think I CAN do it. Thanks for sharing!

  63. #227
    Mary Holshouser

Who said there had to be green leaves on the
orange flower. It’s your flower and you can
do what you think is best – no two flowers
are the same anyway. Love the bold colors.
    Beautiful card. thanks for sharing.

Your card is beautiful. I think you did an amazing job watercoloring. I am so excited for the tabs and sentiment stamps you designed. I was lucky enough to order them before they went on back order and am actually expecting my SSS package today. I loved watching how you used one on the card. Since I’m also a scrapbooker, I am so happy that you included words/sentiments that can be used on scrapbook pages. Well, gotta go check my mailbox again (I’m pretty anxious to receive my new goodies).

I loved your video and the beautiful card you created. Sad that SSS is already out of stock. I’ll be waiting though so I can try to create something as nice as you have.

luv how you used the tab for your sentiment so it takes away nothing from the bouquet! so pretty

  68. #236
    Cindi F

I love your water coloring. I never thought to use distress inks but I’ll have to try that. I always see people who interpret images differently than I do. What you did works!

  69. #237

Cathy, I would have colored the foliage behind the bud as a flower too. That’s what it looks like to me too. Awesome card

  70. #238
    Donna Kalinowsky

I really like the tab sayings set. Your card is wonderful even if you read the flower as one big thing instead of foliage and a flower bud. There wasn’t enough definition in the stamp to see what the artist intended.

  71. #239
    Lynn

Ooh Cathy – I love this card. I can’t wait to try watercoloring with my distress inks. Thanks for sharing!

  78. #275
    Patty Eifert

Beautiful colors on your flowers!! And I still think that the whole yellow flower looks correct….doesn’t make sense to have one big single leaf would be there!! If I bought the set I would color it as part of the flower!! Anyway…like that little tab & sentiment on the side!

  79. #278
    Shelly P

“Big Assed Flower” – LOL! You crack me up! I just love this design and think your big A yellow flower is perfect! I love the juxtaposition f the sketchy flowers with the graphic components of your tabbed sentiments…another classic CZ card design! You make me want to buy every card you create! 😉 I’m not sure my hubby thinks that’s a good thing! But I do! Lol!
